Using Staselog Network Equalizer

Applications

The main applications of Staselog Network Equalizer include:

  • Simple and efficient congestion elimination
  • Improving Quality of Service by means of traffic shaping
  • Implementing subscriber specific services
  • Measuring traffic and gathering statistics
  • Limiting traffic by filtering

Improving Quality of Service includes the following policy options:

  • Ensuring sufficient bandwidth for high priority traffic
  • Distributing bandwidth fairly among classified users
  • Favoring interactive traffic instead of file transfer
  • Treating users and applications individually
  • Limiting bandwidth for low priority traffic

Compatibility

Staselog Network Equalizer can handle traffic compatible with the IPv4 Ethernet standard. It does not require packet labeling or any other external arrangements. In addition to this, DiffServ labeling and VLAN-ID tagging are supported.

Placement

In order to be managed, the traffic must flow through the Staselog Network Equalizer. The appliance should be placed to the bottleneck of the network, typically next to an IP-DSLAM or next to the main firewall or router. SNE is able to model the network hierarchy and thus capable to solve all the bottlenecks. This feature is most useful in wireless networks.
