casing made in USA with external power unit and no moving parts.
All units are individually tested before packaging. The package
includes the main unit, a power unit, an RS-232 serial consol cable,
a network cable for 10/100 Mbit/s local area networks, an installation
manual, and a paper copy of the licence agreement.
The price is 451.40 euros (22 Mbit/s) or 573.40 euros (35 Mbit/s)
plus 53.85 euros for shipping and handling. For models with other

Staselog Diplomat's key benefits
- Guarantees a fair share of the bandwidth for all users
- Doesn't require limiting the maximum available bandwidth of each user
- Usually the network latency is halved and the jitter is reduced
by an order of magnitude.
- Easy installation
- Automatic congestion elimination
- Ensures VoIP traffic
- P2P can be used without blocking others
- Requires no administration after installation
Example of typical usage
A residential network has a connection to the Internet with bandwidth of 8
Mbit/s. The network serves 40 apartments, so there is 200 kbit/s of
bandwidth available for each. The use of banking services via a web browser
requires about 20 kbit/s. Despite the available bandwidth, the
network is unresponsive especially in the evenings. This is most
likely caused by someone transferring movies, music, or other large
files with peer-to-peer networks and is using all the available
bandwidth. In this case Staselog Diplomat can be used to guarantee at
least 200 kbit/s for everyone whenever it is needed, thus
enabling smooth operation. The fair sharing
of bandwidth allows the network uplink throughput to be lowered, while
still maintaining good quality of service. Hence, Diplomat will save
money. However, the key benefit is good
quality of service for every user of the network.
Principle of operation
If there is enough bandwidth for everybody, there is no adjustment
required. When there is a lack of bandwidth, the user consuming most
of the bandwidth must give some to the others. Thus, the one with the
largest bandwidth consumption has the lowest priority and vice versa.
Everybody gets as much bandwidth as needed except the one(s) with
the largest request. This adjustment is dynamic and it adapts
continuously to the traffic.
Only if all users request more bandwidth than is available, everybody
gets the same amount.
Installation
Installation requires a host computer (laptop) with a serial cable
connector and a terminal application program (e.g., Hyperterminal).
Use RS-232 serial cable -with an USB adapter if necessary-
to connect Staselog Diplomat to a (laptop) computer.
Then start a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal at Windows:
Start ->Programs ->Accessories ->HyperTerminal.
Once HyperTerminal starts up it will ask for a description
for the connection. You can type "Diplomat" or anything
else you like there. After this, you will be prompted
for connection properties. Under "Connect using" select
your computers console port (usually "COM1").
Check for the correct port settings:
-Bits per second: 9600
-Data bits: 8
-Parity: None
-Stop bits: 1
-Flow control: None
Using the menu that appears, set the download and upload
speeds 5% below the actual connection speeds in and out, respectively.
